If you use your stone regularly--and you should!--it's going to get dirty. Cleaning your stone is simple, but there are a few things to know:

  1. DON'T clean the stone with soap! The stones are designed to absorb moisture, and that includes soaps. Cleaning with soap won't damage the stone, but it could give off a bad smell when used.
If you've already cleaned the stone with soap, there are a few things to try:
Submerge the stone in water for an hour and change the water frequently. Rinse the stone well, and then bake it at the highest possible temperature for at least an hour to burn off the moisture. After it is cooled, do a test back to see if the smell is gone. If not, you may need to repeat this process again.
  2. DO scrape the stone clean regularly using the included scraper. The stone will probably discolor over time depending on what you cook, but that will not impact its function. Use your oven's self-cleaning function to burn off any residue as needed. For particularly stubborn messes, you can even put it in a grill at the highest possible temperature. It will handle the heat just fine!
  3. DON'T use a metal scraper to scrape the stone. You will scratch and damage the stone.
